David Rubin, FASLA discusses his design vision and work on the popular Franklin Park in Washington, DC

We are excited to announce the return of the ASLA Design Academy for K–12 Educators in 2026.

Building on the success of the inaugural workshop held July 23–26 in Washington, DC, the 2026 program will continue to support educators in bringing environmental design and landscape architecture into K–12 classrooms through interdisciplinary learning experiences.

The inaugural academy featured presentations and information sessions led by Jennifer Nitzky, FASLA, alongside a community of ASLA members and site designers. Participants explored how environmental design theory can be integrated across humanities subjects including history, anthropology, human geography, archaeology, literature, and visual arts to better understand and design meaningful public spaces.

Educators also participated in guided tours of parks, playgrounds, and green roofs designed by landscape architects throughout Washington, DC.
